This requires that career pilots obtain a common body of knowledge through study, research, experience and practice.

They are required to apply their competencies with imagination, intuition, good judgement, reason, ethics, integrity and responsibility to the management, operation and development of safe, efficient and comprehensive national and international aviation and aerospace systems.

The qualification has been designed to allow for the full personal development of the pilot and forms part of a learning and career pathway towards obtaining endorsements, licensing and aerospace management and command. This qualification therefore provides the opportunity through which competencies and provisions can be standardised. The way in which the pathway can be navigated is through the achievement of clusters of unit standards that facilitate various military endorsements or licences and civilian pilot licences such as the Airline Transport Pilot Licence.
[/et_pb_tab][et_pb_tab title=”Flight Dispatch” _builder_version=”3.0.48″ background_size=”initial” background_position=”top_left” background_repeat=”repeat”]The Aircraft Dispatcher shares responsibility for the flight with the Captain, and both are required to sign the Dispatch Release before the flight can legally operate. The dispatcher is responsible for planning the flight, taking into consideration the weather, any maintenance problems on the aircraft, navigational facilities at the appropriate airports, Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS), alternate airports and to ensure flight paths are followed while the flight is in progress.

The dispatcher maintains communication with his or her flights and is responsible for notifying the captain of any significant changes that would affect the safety of the flight. It is the responsibility of the dispatcher to delay or cancel a flight when necessary and to make any other operational decisions necessary to ensure the safety of the flight.

> Passenger handling
> Cargo handling
> Airport/aviation security
> Loads and balances
> Cabin crew

While the focus of this qualification is on these fields, it is possible that other airport services could also be included in the qualification. The qualification contains all the competencies, skills and values required by a learner who may wish to access a higher qualification in management within the aviation support sector.
